The Office of Alumni Engagement at Mercer University has published the following guidelines for writing an effective class note. Class notes are generally reserved for major life events that might be of interest to fellow alumni. Relevant events include:
- Engagements and marriages
- Births and adoptions
- Professional accomplishments
- Educational accomplishments
- Awards and Recognitions
- Deaths of close family members
Class notes should be written in the third person and should reference the name of the alumnus in the first sentence. When referencing an alumnus, be sure to include the class year and maiden name, if applicable.
